The bus leaves at 3:30 as usual. They were talking about moving up the starting time for the JV mile from 5:15 to 5:00, but they have since decided not to do that. So we are back to the regular schedule--JV mile at 5:15, field events and 4x200 at 5:45.
In case you were wondering, the performances in parentheses on the above list are the performances that currently rank 16th in the Spire meets. The other division already had their third meet, so after our meet the rankings will be set. If you have designs on competing in the all-star meet on the 16th, you have to at least better the performance in parentheses.

ATHLETES OF THE MEET:
Overall MVA—Maura Jordan (2:41.3 in 4x800—first-ever 800)
Sprints—Imari Hill (67.9 in 4x4, 29.6 in 4x2, 8.24 in 55
dash)
Distance/middle distance—Olivia Fallon (2:44.1 in 4x8, 71.2
in 4x4)
Field—Grace Semon (PR 8-0 in PV)
Nice debuts (never done the event before)—Jordan (4x8),
Maruna (4x4), Rogers (HJ).
Great job, Jags. I hope you had as much fun at this one as I
did. Fun as in watching people step up to try new things and actually succeed;
fun as in watching people deal with the pressure of competing; fun as in
watching people listen to coaching and make changes. None of those things
happen automatically—you have to make them happen and we had lots of people do
that. We continue to progress both as a team and as individuals, which makes me
happy. I believe we have lots of good things ahead of us, so keep working hard.

Overall another solid effort. However, let’s get the
negative stuff out of the way first. One set of blocks was left on the bus when
we arrived. This can never happen again. Someone needs to step up and take
responsibility for making sure all equipment is off the bus. I don’t care if
it’s a senior or a freshman or whatever. It just never can happen again. Please
note that there are asterisks by many of the performances. Those are used to
designate a season’s-best performance. Hopefully we will continue to see lots
of asterisks as the season progresses.
ATHLETES OF THE MEET:
Overall MVA—Maggie Wagner (2:30.7 in 4x8, 64.8 in 4x4)

The bus leaves SJA at 8:30
am. The meet directors say the meet should be over by 2:30—we shall see. The
track at BW is 200 meters long, while the track at Spire is 300 meters long.
What that means is the turns are tighter. Also, while the surface at BW is
good, it is not as good as Spire. Thus, what we are looking for here is effort
instead of performance. It is possible you could give a better effort than you
did at Spire but have a worse result. Those in the hurdles and short sprint
should also note that the distance is 55 meters and not 60—not a huge
difference, but in those events your time is likely to be faster Sunday no
matter what. Again, don’t get too hung up on your performance but instead focus
on your effort and your technique.
