Another busy weekend for the Jags

This past weekend the Jaguar track team was actually represented at 3 different meets. The big varsity meet of the weekend was the Berea Relays held Friday night at Baldwin Wallace's Finnie Stadium. This was the first time SJA had competed at this presigious meet of 16 teams and they finished 7th in the process. While the team didn't come home with any event victories, they did score in every event. The top results for the Jags came in the distance medley (3rd place - Audi Farris, Emilee Armbruster, Mary Kate Chambers, Rachel McGuire) and the 4x4 (4th place - Caitlin Nagy, MaryKate Caja, Becca Sedlak, Brenna McGrath).
On Saturday, the JV group was originally scheduled to participate in the Avon Relays, but due to clerical error the Jags quickly rescheduled to the Moose Relays at Chanel. A much smaller meet than Avon, the JV crew showed off SJA's depth by winning many relays and taking home the team title. In addition, senior Kristina Jackson was named Running Event MVP for her participation in 2 winning relays.
Next for the Jags is a dual meet with annual Div III track power Gilmour next Tuesday April 1st.

No word from Chanel

Upon coming home from the Berea Relays today I expected to find an email from the people at Chanel, but unfortunately I didn't find it. With that being said, the bus will leave at 7:45 and we'll expect a 9am start.

We still do NOT know the order of events so we'll learn that when we get there.

Alex Strasser and Sarah Schwind will be competing in the pole vault at the Avon Relays because Chanel does NOT have that event. They begin at 9am and should be there at 8:15 or earlier for warm ups and run throughs.

Be dressed for cold and rain - it may not stay dry all day.

Mixed results this past weekend

The track team participated in 2 meets this weekend, sending a largely JV level squad to the Trinity Invite on Friday and a varsity group to the Stow Relays on Saturday. The Trinity squad found the weather warm, but the going rough with a 13th place showing out of 15 teams. It should be pointed out they were the only "JV" type team competing against everyone else's varsity. At Stow, the varsity team enjoyed success early, but after a couple of setbacks they finished at 7th place out of 16 teams.
Highlighting the JV meet was the performance of senior Ronnie Colborn and junior Michelle Costanzo who both cleared 8 feet in the pole vault for the first time. Also running well was the 4 x 100 team of all freshmen (Destiny Evans, Maria Coreno, Sarah Stottner, and Jenae Evans).
At Stow, there were 2 second place finishes early as the 4 x 1600m relay team of Mary Kate Chambers, Caitlin Nagy, Alesha Vovk, and Rachel McGuire ran a great race. McGuire had to out-run 3 other teams to secure the 2nd place spot. Also getting 2nd early on was the 4 x 200m relay team of MaryKate Caja, Becca Sedlak, Gab Leon, and Brenna McGrath. McGrath and Sedlak also qualified to the finals in the 100m dash finishing 3rd and 7th respectively. The pole vault relay, despite using different jumpers than Friday night, still finished 3rd overall as well.
Next up is the Berea Relays for the varsity on Friday, and the JV at Avon the following day.

Close but not quite

Saint Joes almost pulled off the win, but in the end the cross-river rivals from Magnificat won the annual dual with a score of 72-65. In a separately scored JV, the host Jags scored a convincing 95-42 win. In the varsity competition, SJA had victories in the pole vault by freshman Alex Strasser, the 100 meter hurdles by junior Sarah Schwind, the long jump by junior Brenna McGrath, the 100m dash and 300H by junior MaryKate Caja, the 3200 meter run by Mary Kate Chambers, and the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 relays. In the JV competition, SJA won 13 of 17 events, with the freshmen class leading the way. The following 9th graders won events against Mags; Victoria Bonca (pole vault), Dina Rini (long jump), Bridget Roche (100H and high jump), Kennedy Gore (100 meter dash), Mallory Fahey (1600m run), Audrianna Farris (400m dash), and Jenea Adams in the 200m dash. Freshmen also strongly contributed to wins in all 4 relays. The lone sophomore to win an event was Alison Rogozinski, who won the 300m hurdles in her very first track meet ever. Pictures and SJA times are posted to the right.
