What a season!

The track and field season, which started with so much potential and curiosity (and snow) has finally come to a successful conclusion (but technically its not over yet, more on that later).  This past weekend saw the most successful season in school history come to a climax as 3 more school records were set, 2 events reached the podium, and fuel for next year's fire has already been poured.  It needs to be said that if you are one of the top 8 in girls Division I in Ohio, it means you are one of the best in the entire nation - Ohio is that good!

To cap off an amazing season, Jenea Adams reset her own 100m dash and 200m dash records, reached the finals in the 100, and finished 8th overall.  Not only is Jenea the first Jaguar sprinter to qualify to the state meet in an open sprint, she is obviously the first sprinter to earn "All-Ohio" status with her 8th place finish.  After 2 previous years of disappointing runs in the 4 x 200 in Columbus, this year was different.  Led off by Adams, carried by third year qualifiers Gab Leon and Becca Sedlak, and boosted by first year speedster Lauren Zawie, the relay finally qualified to the finals, broke a very fast school record, and also achieved "All-Ohio" status with their 8th place finish.

Junior thrower Brittany Morrison was just one of a few throwers to qualify in both the shot put and discus.  While neither event went according to plan, it is an event dominated by seniors so she will be back.

Senior Alesha Vovk, qualifying to the state meet in the 1600 seemingly out of nowhere, finished her race in 15th place.  To revisit the comment above about the season not being quite over, Alesha has been invited to compete in the prestigious Midwest Meet of Champions in which the best seniors from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana square off.  She will be competing next weekend!

To wrap it up, below is a list of important events and firsts in this year's season.  Indeed it has been a remarkable season - the best in SJA history ever!
* 8 school records were set (actually more considering the 100 broken 3 times)...100m, 200m, 100H, PV, shot put, 4 x 100, 4 x 200, sprint medley.
* the most events ever qualified to the state meet (6)
* the first qualifiers to the state meet ever in 100m, 200m, and shot put
* the first "All-Ohio" athletes in the 100m and 4 x 200
* the 3rd consecutive district team title
* the 1st ever regional title (only 2nd sport in SJA history to do this!)
