Itinerary for Meet #1 - Geneva SPIRE

This will be a quick/efficiently run meet.  The times provided are estimates, so be ready to possibly go sooner or later than what is posted.

The first meet may be chaotic for the new athletes, so I am counting on the upperclassmen to help them through it.

You MUST CHECK IN AND GET A HIP NUMBER before your races.  Do NOT wait until the last minute.

Coaches will not be standing over you at all times telling you when to stretch, when to do accelerations, and when to put your spikes on...there are too many events for us to be everywhere.  We will do our best, but we need you to take responsibility too!

Perhaps most importantly (besides trying hard, warming up, and cooling down)...we have to leave our area cleaner than when we got there.  SENIORS!  You are in charge of our "camp" being clean.

Let's have fun!!!!

Indoor 2017 Schedule and basic info

SJA Indoor Track and Field Schedule 2017
Practices will be Mondays, Wednesdays*, and Thursdays** from 3:15-5:00
*note there are some early dismissal Wednesdays in which practices will be 2:15-4:00
**on days we have Thursday meets at Spire in Geneva, we will only have Monday and Wednesday practices
Everybody should have the opportunity to compete in 5 indoor meets.  That is plenty in a 9 week period during a Cleveland winter.
Tuesday, January 5th is first day back to school.  We will practice Wednesday and Thursday as if it were a normal week.

Thursday, January 12th                 Erie Division League Meet           Spire Institute Geneva
Wednesday, January 25th                        Erie Division League Meet           Spire Institute Geneva
Sunday, January 29th                    Oberlin Series #2                            Oberlin College
Thursday, February 9th                 Erie Division League Meet           Spire Institute Geneva
Friday, February 17th                    all-star meet (top 16)                    Spire Institute Geneva
Saturday, February 25th               Oberlin Series #4                            Oberlin College
Saturday, March 4th                      Indoor State Meet (top 20)         University of Akron

We treat indoor as a chance to develop general fitness and technique in getting ready for the outdoor season.  We will not try to peak or chase after state qualifying marks.  We will train hard, but smart.  You will compete to the best of your ability, but qualifying to the all-star meet or the state indoor meet are bonuses, not goals.

District Success!

After 4 consecutive district championships, the Jags came across what is thought by many to be the most difficult district in the entire state of Ohio.  The quality and depth in each event was evident, but SJA had their best meet of the season as an entire team to finish 4th.  In all, the Jaguars are sending athletes in 8 different events to the regional meet out of a possible 17.
The lone district champion for SJA was senior Monica Hahn, who ran an incredible race from lane 1 to defend her title from last year.  The 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 meter relay teams both finished 2nd overall to earn trips to the Amherst Regional meet.  Hahn, junior Lauren Zawie, senior Kye Williams, and freshmen Haley Morgan and Timmia Crayton-Prioleau made up those relays.
Third place finishes were had by Williams in the long jump and the 4 x 800m relay team of sophomore Sydney Seymour, juniors Maggie Wagner and Olivia Battistoni, and sophomore Jocelyn Perkins.
Fourth place qualifiers were Williams in the high jump, Seymour in the 1600m run, Zawie in the 200m dash, and freshman Emma Pesicka in the shot put.
The Amherst regional will take place next week on May 25 and 27.  Finishers in the top 4 in each event qualify to the state meet the following weekend at Jesse Owens Stadium on Ohio State's campus.
