This week - a note to all!

hi team!

It has been a fun 48 hours since the announcement of the 2nd consecutive district championship.  If you weren't there please see our blog for a picture and the details.  I may have been a district record for the largest number of points ever scored with 194!  We had athletes in 16 out of 17 events qualify and 8 district champions!  Some have a legit shot at qualifying to the state meet, but it will take some great focus and effort this week at Amherst.  I couldn't be more proud of this group!

The itinerary for Wed and Fri is posted on the website - please see it.  Those of you will have to reset your goals, and really believe in them.  For some it is making finals.  For others it is qualifying for state.  And yet others simply PRing and competing to the best of your ability on your biggest stage is what you need to look at.  We are at a new battlefront where the competition will be significantly better.   Round one was getting to district finals, round 2 was qualifying to regionals, round 3 of this battle is qualifying to regional finals.

I am still looking for uniforms from many of you.  Please wash them and bring them in.

If you are done competing for the season please consider running in the Earn Your Spots 5k Monday morning at SJA at 9am.

Tuesday during second AB there will be an informational cross country meeting.  Please spread the word and make sure you're there!

Schedule for the week:

Back to Back!

In resounding fashion, the SJA track and field team defended their OHSAA district title this past weekend over 2nd place Lakewood and 3rd place Magnificat at Lakewood High School.  The point total of 194 was far in advance of Lakewood's 115.

Regardless if it was Wednesday's exceptionally warm weather or Friday's chilly and blustery conditions the Jaguars showed up ready to compete.  All the disciplines contributed to the win, which included wins in 8 different events.  Event winners include; sophomore Brittany Morrison in both the shot put and discus, freshman Ky Williams in both the high jump and 100m hurdles, junior Rachel McGuire in both the 1600 and 800m runs, senior MaryKate Caja in the 300m hurdles, senior Brenna McGrath in the LJ, and the 4 x 200m relay team of Caja, junior Becca Sedlak, junior Gab Leon, and McGrath.

Many more qualified to next week's Amherst Regional by placing in the top 4 in her event.  Other than the winners listed above, the following will also compete next week; McGrath in the 200m dash (4th), freshman Monica Hahn in the 100m (2nd) and 300m hurdles (4th), freshman Bridget McGuire in the pole vault (2nd), junior Nicole Rave in the discus (2nd), Ann Conroy in shot put (4th), senior Jill Bresnahan in the 3200m run (3rd), Sedlak in the 400m dash (3rd), senior Helen Steve in the 1600m run (4th), senior Emilee Armbruster in the 800m run (4th), junior Alesha Vovk in the high jump (2nd), the 4 x 100m relay team (2nd) of junior Mackenzie Dorin, sophomore Sarah Stottner, Leon, and sophomore Jenea Adams, the 4 x 400m relay team (2nd) of McGrath, junior Maddie Zimmerman, Armbruster, and Sedlak, the 4 x 800m relay team (2nd) of Rachel McGuire, freshman Anna Farris, Zimmerman and Armbruster.

Day 1 of Districts

In what Coach Kieser often refers to as the "more important day of districts", the Jaguar track and field team set a solid tone after the first day of competition.  Other than 3 finals, the majority of the day is spent trying to qualify to Friday's finals.  If you don't have a good first day, you can't have a good second day.  Overall, SJA qualified all but 3 people to Friday's finals.  Currently the Jags are in the lead with 41 points, but most of the points are still to be had on Friday.

For the 3 finals that already happened, SJA nearly maxed out their possible points.  Also, all those competitors made it to next week's regional meet at Amherst by finishing in the top 4.  The day began with the Jaguar high jumpers pulling off the rare 1st and 2nd sweep.  Freshman Ky Williams took home first place with a jump of 5' 1", while junior Alesha Vovk finished right behind with a jump of 5' 0".  The 4 x 800m relay team of Rachel McGuire ('14), Anna Farris ('15), Maddie Zimmerman ('14), and Emilee Armbruster ('13) took 2nd place.  Soon after that, an exciting shot put competition saw sophomore thrower Brittany Morrison  win with a big throw of 36' 8.5" and senior Ann Conroy sneak from 5th to the coveted 4th spot on her last throw with a final toss of 32' 5.5".

Qualifiers to Friday's finals include:
Ky Williams and Monica Hahn in the 100H
Jenea Adams in the 100m dash
the 4 x 200m relay team of MaryKate Caja, Becca Sedlak, Gab Leon, and Brenna McGrath
the 4 x 100m relay team of Mackenzie Dorin, Sarah Stottner, Leon and Adams
Becca Sedlak in the 400m dash
Caja and Hahn in the 300H
Rachel McGuire and Emilee Armbruster in the 800m run
McGrath in the 200m dash
the 4 x 400m relay team of McGrath, Zimmerman, McGuire and Sedlak

Also competing Friday will be
McGrath and Sarah Reardon in the long jump
Morrison and Nicole Rave in the discus
Bridget McGuire and Alexis Bloor in the pole vault
Rachel McGuire and Helen Steve in the 1600m run
Emily Bauer and Jill Bresnahan in the 3200m run

This week - week of Monday May 20th, 2013

Hi all!

This is an exciting week for many, and a time for our athletes to showcase the results of all their hard work this winter and spring.  There are a lot of preparations to be made, but at this point they are mostly mental/technical and not so much physical (the hay is in the barn, as they say).

This is a week where we need full cooperation from athletes and parents to make sure we maximize our team's performance.

The district line up has been posted, but we could still change things by Tuesday night (we don't expect to, but we have to be flexible).  An alternate has been listed in every event just in case.  So many things can happen this week with weather, illnesses, and other unknowns, so it is best to err on the side of caution.

Most of you will be done early each day this week, so please don't rush practices.  Take your time, stretch well, and be attentive to all the details.

Monday: seniors are expected to come to practice even with the day off.  Sleep in, eat right, no mistakes!
sprinters - hand-offs workout after a 1 lapper at 90% to put some fatigue in the legs.  1 lapper in flats, relays in spikes.  1 lapper in flats to end workout also.  Light lift
Hahn and Williams - 5 x 3 hurdles from blocks.
Reardon, Vovk - jump rope session and light lift after warm-up
High jumpers to St. Eds from 4:15-5:00pm
Long jumpers with Coach Garlock after workout.

Tuesday: (SPRING SPORTS BANQUET NIGHT)
Team meeting in gym for full DISTRICT team (and alts) before practice.  Short and sweet to make sure we're all on same page.
Pre-meet hand-offs, blocks, etc...

Wednesday: districts at Lakewood - see itinerary on website

Thursday: light workout, team t-shirt making and dinner after??? To be determined!

Friday: districts at Lakewood - see itinerary on website

Saturday and Sunday:
distance runners run as Coach Meeson prescribes
sprinters should cross train, stretch, do abs and push-ups.

All-Catholic final tune-up for the post-season

As most local schools prepare for the post-season with a conference or league meet, the Jaguar track and field team went to VASJ for an unscored end-of-season competition among Catholic Schools.  Team scores weren't kept, but the Jags had finishers in the top 3 of most events.
The Jags lone victory came from senior MaryKate Caja in the 300 hurdles.
Second place finishes were earned by; Junior Rachel McGuire in the 800m run, the 4 x 200m relay of Caja, Audrianna Farris ('15), Maria Coreno ('15), and Brenna McGrath ('13), the 4 x 100m relay team of Mackenzie Dorin ('14), Sarah Stottner ('15), Gab Leon ('14), and Jenea Adams ('15), and Alesha Vovk in the high jump.
Third places finishes came from; Adams in the 100m dash, Emilee Armbruster ('13) in the 800m run, the 4 x 400m relay of Maddie Zimmerman ('14), Dorin, Farris, and McGuire, Bridget McGuire ('16) in the pole vault, Ky Williams ('16) in 100H and high jump, Nicole Rave in the discus.
Next for the track and field team is the district championship this coming Wednesday and Friday at Lakewood High School.  Field events begin at 4pm and running at 5pm Wed, 6pm Friday.

SJA track and field runs into heavy competition

On Friday of last week the varsity track and field team faced its toughest competition of the year at the Berea Relays.  The Jaguars finished a respectable 5th in a field of 15 teams behind powerhouses Medina, Brunswick, Amherst, and North Royalton.  The Jags didn't pull home any victories, but 4 x 200 meter relay team of MaryKate Caja ('13), Becca Sedlak ('14), Gab Leon ('14), and Brenna McGrath ('13) did manage a second place finish.  A couple of third places were earned as well in the shuttle hurdles (Caja, Bridget Roche '15, Monica Hahn '16, Ky Williams '16), and the Distance Medley Relay (Zimmerman '14, Emilee Armbruster '13, Alesha Vovk '14, Rachel McGuire '14).

On Saturday, the JV team took on some varsity competition at the Cleveland Central Catholic Ironman Invitational.  Overall, the team took second behind Trinity's varsity squad.  Complete results of individual results were not announced at the meet, so proper recognition will have to be saved for later.

The team next competes this Friday at Westlake Relays for a mostly varsity squad and the Olmsted Falls Relays for a mostly JV squad.
