YSU folllow-up

Sorry for the delay....

In the first full meet of the season the Jaguars traveled to Youngstown State and competed well.  A lot the Jags were running new distances for the first time or experimenting in new field events as they try to work their way into the new season.

Among top performances for SJA was a 2nd place finish in the high jump by junior Kye Williams, a 3rd place in the 60m dash by senior Jenea Adams - good for a school record, and another 3rd place and school record by freshman Sydney Seymour in the 3200m run.

Next is a trip to Columbus to visit Ohio State University in two weeks.

MONDAY PRACTICE REVISED!!!

We are changing the practice schedule for Monday, Jan 18.

We are NOT going to Geneva as it is supposed to be warmer out and the track should be clear by the afternoon.

Here is the revised plan for Monday.

8:00 am - pole vaulters still go with Coach Marquard as originally planned.

2:00 pm - high jumpers in the gym (Williams, Roche, Ridge, and anyone else that wants to try)

3:00 pm - all distance, sprinters, and throwers.  Sprinters bring your spikes.

We will be done by 4:40 - please have rides pick you up then.  The coaches cannot stay after that and the school will be closed.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but not you can sleep in!!!

Still no practice Tuesday.

Wed early dismissal, practice right after school at 2:00.

Thursday - regular practice

Friday - no practice

Saturday - meet  YSU

thanks!

Week of Jan 12, 2015

Workouts for week of January 12, 2015

Final exam week – we will do what we can.

Monday – temp should be 30° so going outside is likely – be prepared!

Tuesday – will be colder, so likely stay inside.

Thursday – final exam day – you will be asked to run your own workout at 12:15 when you are dismissed.  Forecast high is 25°, so be prepared for either staying in or going out (probably in).

Distance runners and PVers – look to your coaches for final instructions for your workouts this week.  I will try to have an agenda for the Youngstown meet as soon as possible.

We will also try to do something with high jump, long jump, hurdles, and throws in the next two weeks.  New people – if you are interested in one of those events then let Coach Kieser know.

Study hard and crush these final exams!

Solid Season Opener at Oberlin - 3 events, 3 first places

The SJA track and field team had a successful first weekend to start their 2015 indoor campaign.  On just 3 practices, the Jaguars showed up to Oberlin College with little training but a lot of expectation.  The team didn't disappoint as a lot of familiar faces, and some new ones, helped pick up where they left off last spring.  Keeping an intentionally abbreviated first meet for health-sake, the Jags entered just 3 events, but were successful in winning all 3.
The season began with Coach Marquard and the pole vaulters.  Junior Bridget McGuire won the event with a jump of 9' 0".  Next was the 55m dash in which 17 runners competed for the Jags.  7 of those runners qualified to the finals where senior Jenea Adams, and juniors Kye Williams and Monica Hahn finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall.  The distance runners were next to take their turn and impressed with 6 full teams running in the 4 x 800m relay.  The team of Katie Pellegrino ('17), Sydney Seymour ('18), Maggie Wagner ('17), and Anna Farris ('15) were victorious with a fine time of 11:00.
The team next competes at Youngstown State in two weeks.
