Strong Showing at Districts!

When the dust settled, the Jaguars of SJA finished 4th at the OHSAA Division I district championship held at Lakewood High School. Medina Highland left the meet as the district champions.

From beginning to end the Jags had their best meet of the year, getting personal bests and season bests all night long capped with a resounding school record in the 4 x 400.
The day began with Maureen Bole scoring a PR and 3rd place finish in the discus with a toss of 105'0". Megan Seaman got things going with PR and final-qualifying effort in the long jump with a leap of 15'9".

The sprint relays were on fire running season bests in both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100, where both teams finished 5th. Dominique Williams led off both teams and got help from Gab Kreuz, Bride Sweeney, and Julie Delong in the 4 x 200, while Bride Sweeney, Julie Delong, and Bri Papotto completed the 4 x 100.

In the 800, Celine Mangan ran a lifetime best and all-time SJA freshmen record of 2:21.4 - good for 4th and a trip to regionals. Kristin Karn backed her up with a season best 2:23.9 for 6th.

Big Kick Kelly Gallagher ran a PR and season best in the 1600 of 5:20 which notched her a 5th place score. Melissa Bresnahan followed suit with a superb time of 11:32 in the 3200 good for 3rd place, while Kelly came back with a great run of 11:41 good for 5th place finish.

Possibly the highlight of the night was the big school record and 4th place finish in the 4 x 400 by the team of Gab Kreuz, Kaitlyn Seroka, Julie Delong, and Celine Mangan. Their time of 4:05 beat the record of 4:07 set two years ago at the district meet.

Big Day at Woodridge Meet

The SJA had a strong showing at the Woodridge "Stars" meet - a meet intended for only JV level athletes. The fact that our athletes did so well reflects upon the hard work of the athletes and the depth of the team in many events.

SJA had 3 event winners including: Anne Marie O'Toole in the 300 hurdles, Caitlin Nagy in the 200m dash, and Kaitlyn Seroka in the 400m dash.

Additionally, O'Toole was awarded the "Star Hurdler of the Meet" and Nagy was named the "Star Sprinter of the Meet" as she also earned second place in the 100m dash (and 2nd in the long jump as well).

Congratulations on a great effort and a great season!

Team meets Olympian

In a special trip to Michigan, some of the varsity track and field athletes competed in the Shumake Relays in Detroit. Some of the athletes had the opportunity to meet with 2004 Gold Medalist Dee Dee Trotter, who was brought in by the meet to greet event winners and support the "Test Me, I'm Clean" campaign. Below is a picture of SJA's 4 x 800 meter relay team that won their first event of the day and had a chance to pose with Ms. Trotter. Overall, the team had many successful performances and had a chance to bond closer as a team while spending the night in Detroit.

Practice Schedule Updates

Any and all sprinters will be meeting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for all of February after school with Coaches Kollin and Turner. THIS IS FOR ANYONE OF ANY AGE OR ABILITY! Be dressed and ready to condition. You must have an up-to-date physical to participate. Forms can be found on the bulletin board outside Room 331.

Throwers will be lifting Mon, Wed, Fri with Coach Baxendale and doing technique on alternating days.

Distance runners are meeting on their own after school everyday. Suggested runs will be posted on the bulletin board outside the locker room. Coach Kieser is trapped in detention duty during this time, but would rather be training with the team.

Case February Indoor Itinerary

Case February Meet
Feb 7, 2009

The bus will leave SJA at 8:00 am. You do NOT have to ride the bus, but please be at the Veale Center (see http://www.case.edu/visit/ for maps) in plenty of time to warm up.
