The indoor track team traveled to Geneva's Spire Institute for one more meet and a final chance to try qualifying for the Indoor State Meet. To qualify for the state meet requires the athlete or relay to be in the top 16 of the state over the course of the entire season.
Not only did SJA earn some qualifying marks, but nearly the entire team stepped up to have their best performances of the season.
Highlights of the day included great times from the 4 x 400 team of Brenna McGrath, Mary Kate Caja, Becca Sedlak, and Caitlin Nagy who ran a 4:12.89 and have positioned themselves as 10th in the state at the moment.
The open 800 was also very encouring as Caitlin Nagy ran a HUGE PR and broke her own school record by nearly 7 seconds. Her 2:22.85 is currently 14th in the state. Also running great races in the 800 were Alesha Vovk and Audi Farris who ran 2:36 and 2:37. The 3200 saw senior Mary Kate Chambers finish in 2nd place with an 13 second PR of 12:21. That time is 28th in the state. The 4 x 200 team of Caja, Leon, Sedlak, and McGrath ran 1:50.09 which is sitting 18th in the state.
In her final indoor throw of her high school career, senior Maggey Urban took another school record with a throw of 32' 6.5" - good for 21st in the state.
Final postings for qualifiers will be declared Monday night or Tuesday morning.
